JuTCombo5- Combination Ceramics
July 5 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
This is an 8 week class in which you will learn the basics in both Hand building with ceramic clay and also Beginning Pottery Wheel skills. We will meet for 3 hours once a week at the assigned day and time for eight weeks. The class is repeatable as the instructor will continue to teach new skills and techniques as your own skill grows.
There is a wide variety of techniques in this field and there is always something to learn. In this class as a beginner you will be taught the basic skills to make items from stoneware clay by hand as well as in the use of a pottery wheel. More advanced students will be taught additional skills in forming and decorating as they are ready.
Learning the basics in ceramics is similar to learning a new sport and requires practice to become proficient. In actuality it generally takes more than one session to grow in skill and we want you to know that most people will not be proficient without continued practice. For that reason, studio time is available for current and former students, whenever there are no classes scheduled, at $10/hour and you will just need to verify open times before coming in. Included in the price of the class is enough clay for average usage, all firing and bucket glazes, and a shelf to store your items during the class. There is a minimum age of 14 to take this class due to the pottery wheel portion. The first day of the class gives the student a lot of information, approx 30-45 minutes of orientation, so please do not sign up for a class if you cannot make the first meeting. Any pieces made by the student that are left behind for more than 90 days will be discarded unless prior arrangements have been made. If possible, any missed class hours might be made up with studio time as long as it is within the same month(s) as your original class.
***A bleach solution will be used to disinfect tools and surfaces between students and sessions. Please bring an old towel you will need one frequently to wipe your hands and surfaces during class and paper towels will not be provided. You will want to trim your fingernails short as longer nails complicate learning this skill. If you have an apron you’d like to wear feel free to bring it. If you have previously purchased a gift certificate for a class please call the studio or sign up in person for your class. The following information outlines our refund policy:
